The Best Budget Mechanical Keyboard

The Redragon Star Blade Pro is a visually striking TKL mechanical keyboard. Its unique, often purple-blue color scheme makes it stand out. Solidly built with comfortable PBT keycaps and a gasket mount, it offers a pleasant typing experience. Vibrant, customizable RGB backlighting adds to its appeal. It's a great choice for those seeking a unique and functional keyboard.

Good Value, smooth linears

It has some good smooth action, and the keycaps don't have a disruptive amount of jiggle for me. The action for the space bar is excellent, not only smooth but solid and not rattly at all. The sound
the keys make on these linears is a bit closer to a thocky sound than tactiles, but I would say the sound overall is more of a clack than a deep thock. The keycaps themselves are not only beautiful
but also have a bit of a textured feel similar to but slightly less textured than the pbt caps on my main keyboard. The keyboard is more lightweight than I expected which was surprising. I'd estimate it sits in the midweight range but I haven't weighed it for a precise number. I like lightweight and midweight boards much better than heavys for maneuvering it around the desk as needed.

The character printed on the board is cute, but what I like the most is that the print job doesn’t stop at the main function keys. All of keys have a special print across them, and the character is even printed across the back too which I think is a nice touch that adds a bit of a premium feel to the board. The usb dongle has a spot to clip in securely, although it’s almost too tight on mine, I had to use a tool to lever it up and out of the cut out. The usb c connection is in a good spot for me on this board, just left of center. This position would be ideal for my pc set up so that's a positive for me. It also has switches to swap between Bluetooth and 2.4 usb dongle, and switch between windows and mac. These are located on the monitor facing side of the board, so they're easy to reach without lifting and turning the board over compared to some others that have these on the underside.

Overall, this is a solid mechanical keyboard for anyone just dipping into hotswappables or mechanicals in general. You could do much worse than this one as far as feel goes for your first mechanical. The switches are butter smooth and I wish I could have gotten something this high quality for the price when I was just starting out myself. It follows that I think this board is a good value for what you get. Hotswappables are an excellent choice when you're starting out because you can buy different switches and try them out without shelling out another $80 or so for a new board or learning how to solder, but what makes this one such a good value is the quality of the linear switches it comes stock with. They might not be the world’s most expensive switches, but these feel nice and are good quality switches for everyday use as well as gaming right out of the box. I've gotten some low-mid end boards with some real bad quality switches before that I just couldn't stand, so believe me when I say this one is a winner, especially for a mechanical newbie.
